Shimmer, Slice, Accretion
Anu Vahtra & Lieven Lahaye
2021
Photography. Pigment print, framed. 80 × 56cm.
Shimmer, Slice, Accretion is a photograph that Anu Vahtra and Lieven Lahaye composed together in 2021 to accompany a text of the same name by Lahaye. The text was inspired by three notes on his desk: ‘Shimmer’ — from Joan Didion’s Why I Write; ‘Slice’ — from a radio story by Scott Carrier, where a slice of pizza becomes a visual threshold between the ordinary and the unwell; and ‘Accretion’ — meaning the slow build- up of layers, whether matter or meaning. Accretion is the soft dictatorship of material over the way it is organized, no matter if this material is sand, forming dunes. Website: cataloging.xyz
