Kristaps Ģelzis

2008
Object. . 25 x 40 x 35 cm.

By using the international language of art – symbols and archetypes, Ģelzis already since the beginnings of his creative life in late eighties of the 20th century has acutely and honestly talked about the developments of the age, about how a person feels today – about their place in the country and about one’s country. This has become especially topical in the works of his last years, where the words selected by Ģelzis are most often associated with the problems of national identity and statehood.

Kristaps Ģelzis is able to work with any of the materials, technologies and media available nowadays – starting from classical drawing and watercolour painting to ready objects, high-tech materials, photographs, digital prints, video and others. The selected technique is closely related to the message of Ģelzis – the principal idea of the work and the mood of the age.
