Estere Betija Grāvere

2020
Graphic art. Chine Colle. 95 x 65 cm.

Estere Betija Grāvere writes about her series of works: “A grain of sand is large enough to allow it to move easily. One such grain, one-eighth of a millimetre in size, gets into the shoe and is able to tickle your nerves, and sometimes rub your foot sore. By studying the shapes of sand grains, you can immerse yourself in their peculiar life — how far they have managed to travel to get to where you meet them. The more regular the shape is, the greater the distance covered, and it, as a rule, travels hundreds of thousands of kilometres.” Sand has become a symbol of communication in this series of 17 works, but the truth represented by this artwork is not specifically identifiable. With the help of this series, the artist tries to recall something forgotten but worth remembering.
