VV Foundation is pleased to support the creative competition “What Would Janis Rozentāls’ Characters Do Today?”organised by the Janis Rozentāls Art School, and invites all students of the school to take part.

In 2026, we will celebrate two significant anniversaries — the 160th anniversary of the outstanding Latvian painter Janis Rozentāls and the 80th anniversary of the Janis Rozentāls Art School. In honour of these milestones, the school invites students of professional art education programmes (ages 7–16) to explore Rozentāls’ characters and reinterpret them from a contemporary perspective.

The competition begins with electronic registration, open until 30 January 2026 (the application form is available here). After registration, students may submit their works to the Janis Rozentāls Art School until 13 February. All competition conditions can be found in the official guidelines.

Each age group will receive a main prize of €120, along with €50 encouragement awards. In addition, the jury and supporters will present special prizes, recognising particularly creative and original interpretations.

Following the competition, the best works will be exhibited at the Janis Rozentāls Art School Exhibition Hall (Slokas iela 52A, Riga) from 6 to 31 March. The winners will be announced and awarded at a special event on 6 March at 16:00 — an opportunity for participants, teachers, and supporters to meet and celebrate the achievements of young artists.

VV Foundation’s support for such initiatives reflects the foundation’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Latvian art and arts education, fostering creativity, and providing opportunities for young talents to grow in a professional environment.
