Liene Rumpe

1996, Latvia

Liene Rumpe is a painter and installation artist who draws inspiration from multiple sources: contemporary discourses on geopolitics and authoritarian ideologies; populist, opportunistic claims shaped by changing circumstances; the art world as a saturated decorative environment; philosophical literature; and the rhythms of the pre-digital era. The artist employs conceptual characters as a framework through which to stage and examine specific philosophical, political, and ethical ideas in both visual and textual form, pointing to the roles we inevitably create and inhabit.

Rumpe graduated from the Latvian Academy of Art in 2022 with a Master’s degree in Painting. For her master’s installation, she received the BDO Young Artist Award (2022), while her solo exhibition Acupuncture for a Cactus (2023, DOM Gallery) was nominated for the Purvītis Prize 2025. Liene is one of the co-founders of the artist-run space DOM.
