Laimdota Malle
1988, Latvia
Laimdota Malle is a contemporary artist based in Riga, Latvia. She holds master’s degrees from the Fine Art department at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, and the Visual Arts department of the Latvian Art Academy. Among her solo exhibitions are “Kāds savāds, garš milzis” / “How to move the giant” in the art center NOASS and the solo exhibition “OOZE” in the Pragovka gallery in Prague and Vagonu Halle in Riga, which was nominated for the Purvīša award 2023 and “Kilograms kultūras 2022”.
Laimdota Malle works with various media, including drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and animation, to create installations with a particular interest in questioning the meaning of collective and personal experience. Malle creates metaphorical stories that reveal hitherto unknown landscapes and realities that can belong to the past as well as the present and the future. The constructed scenes tell about the impossibility of holding on to something that has decided to fade away and what traces it has left.
