Eriks Apalais

Ēriks Apaļais (b. in 1981) mainly works in painting and has participated in international exhibitions since 2008. Among others Apaļais has participated in group shows in Silberkuppe Gallery, District Berlin (Berlin), CAC (Vilnius), kim? CAC and Careof (Milan). Notable solo show Family was held at the Great Hall of the Latvian National Museum of Art (2020) curated by internationally recognized art historian Katerina Gregos. Other notable solo shows have been held at Vera Munro Gallery in Hamburg, kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Alma Gallery (Riga). Artist has been awarded the Karl H. Ditze-Preis for best diploma, the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg, Germany (2011) and DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) award for excellence. In 2011 has been nominated for Ars Viva 11/12 prize. Ēriks Apaļais has received diploma in fine arts from the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg as a student of Prof. Andreas Slominski, Germany (2011). In 2019, Ēriks Apaļais was one of the eight artists who was nominated for the most prestigious award in visual art in Latvia-the “Purvītis Award”.
