We are proud to announce that Katja Novitskova’s Pattern of Activation (Gardens of the Galaxy) (2024), from the VV Foundation collection, will be screened on 7 November 2026 at 4 PM at Filmhuis Den Haag in The Hague.
The screening forms part of Between Film and Art, the experimental programme of the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival, curated by Temra Pavlović. The programme also features works by Alexandre Koberidze and Dane Komljen.
Between Film and Art presents films that fall between conventional cinema and the art world, finding creative freedom in the space between them. The programme draws on Eastern Europe’s long and still-unfolding history of experimental cinema. Built from thousands of images drawn from scientific datasets and citizen-science platforms, Novitskova’s work moves through wildlife camera photographs, astronomical imagery, biological samples and other machine-readable visual material. She transforms these datasets into a rapid, hypnotic sequence that reflects on the technological capture of nature, ecological surveillance and the increasingly blurred boundary between scientific observation and machine vision.
The screening will also include Novitskova’s new work Pattern of Activation (Plankton) (2026). The artist will join the audience for a conversation following the screening.
