Benas Matijošaitis
2002, Lithuania
Benas Matijošaitis is an artist and curator who completed a BA in Painting at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and is currently studying for an MA in Photography and Media Art. In his practice, the artist analyses principles of image recognisability, disappearance, polysemy and appropriation. Drawing from photographic and digital images found in print and online media, as well as those he created himself, Benas Matijošaitis reprocesses them to form a mnemic field detached from context and lacking clearly articulated interrelations. In his research, the artist seeks to uncover phenomena that are evidently elusive yet unexpectedly emergent, to highlight their indeterminacy and inarticulateness, and to construct a systematic network of references to images fading into oblivion.
Matijošaitis recently presented a solo exhibition titled ‘Point of Origin’ at the Meno Parkas Gallery.
