Oto Holgers Ozoliņš

1997, Latvia

Oto Holgers Ozoliņš (1997) is an artist of the younger generation whose practice approaches socially relevant themes through irony, employing process-based sculptural methods. His work examines aspects of personal growth, habit formation and resistance to idleness, exploring the relationship between discipline and material. During the pandemic, Ozoliņš carved one wooden spoon a day for 400 consecutive days, which became the basis for his first solo exhibition and sparked significant changes in his daily habits—building a boat, quitting smoking, running a marathon and training for a triathlon. This routine-driven approach reshaped his understanding of applying form to traditional materials and of process as a performative act. Ozoliņš’s recent work focuses on decision-making mechanisms and mapping personal limitations, forging new links between materiality, process and performativity.

In 2022 he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from the Art Academy of Latvia, specialising in sculpture, and in 2018 he graduated from the Riga Design and Art Secondary School. Since 2018, he has participated in group exhibitions, and in 2022 presented his solo exhibition “400 RĪTI” at Smilga gallery.
