The magazine Tvērums, with the support of the VV Foundation and the State Culture Capital Foundation, has published its 11th issue – Austrumi (East).
Austrumi explores multiple notions of the East: Eastern Europe and the Far East, inner and outer Easts, as well as past, present, and perhaps even future Easts.
This issue features texts on the divide between East and West, on attitudes toward the East — exoticisation or denial — on the Latgalian language, and on Eastern philosophy. It includes essays by Agra Lieģe-Doležko, Paula Elmere, Laura Melne, Jūlija Tumanovska, Ventis Vīnbergs, Toms Heniņš, and Betija Stojniča. Also featured are translations of articles by Jay L. Garfield and Bryan W. Van Norden, as well as Carol Steinberg Gould and Mara Miller, together with a conversation with philosopher and Buddhist philosophy expert Kaspars Eihmanis.
