Maris Subacs
1963, Latvia
Māris Subačs is an artist and poet working in book illustrations, linocut pages and drawings.
He addresses the audience not only via drawings about God, infinity, the world, nature and man, but also writes, as he himself says – meditative texts. Both visual and written works amaze with the ability to express deep and saturated themes in simple symbols and clear connections. Together with pastor Juris Rubenis, Subacs has published 16 books , which have received high praise in the field of spiritual and philosophical literature.
Graduated from the Decorative Design Department of the Riga Applied Arts Secondary School and the Graphics Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts.
