Andris Breze

2000
Painting. Watercolour, paper. 40 x 30 cm.

Andris Breže is a classic of contemporary art, one of the representatives of the so called ‘trespassers’ generation, which brought a new and brave way of expression into the art environment of Latvia in the 80s of the 20th century. In his works, he addressed the impressions of Soviet and Post-Soviet reality in contemporary society. In the 90s, Breže created a series of assemblages from bread boxes, which he himself characterises as a “preserved” feelings of that difficult time.
