Monotypes from “Lampreys” series

In Amanda Ziemele’s works, painting leaves the plane of the wall at the height of human eyes and, despite traditional law of “painting gravitation”, is situated either at the ceiling or close to the floor. The works of Ziemele consistently reveals an outlook on the painting medium that rarely occurs in the art world of Latvia, while convincingly participating in internationally topical discussion on its place in contemporary art. In 2021, Ziemele won Purvītis Prize.
